maintenance
  • no maintenance was performed since the site evaluation was only conducted for sample database.

site evaluation
  • astm signage - current stickers missing/damaged - (pic 1) / (included in maintenance plan)
  • not ADA compliant - with 9 elevated elements, and 0 ground-level elements.  however, the ADA requirements are for play elements along an accessible route.  so we can combine the play elements of this structure with hoover#2.  in that case, there are 15 elevated play elements and 5 ground level elements. (this satisfies the ADA requirements for ground level play elements)
  • padlock - there is a miscellaneous pad lock that has been attached to the base of one of the climbers. obviously, this is not manufacturer installed, and could cause an injury.  - (pic 2)  / (included in maintenance plan)
  • bolt threads - there are half a dozen bolts under the playground decks that have more than the allowable 2 threads exposed. (pic 3) / (included in maintenance plan)
  • clamp - there is a clamp that is left over from a removed panel or climber that may create an impalement hazard.  - (pic 4) / (included in maintenance plan)
  • playground deterioration - there is significant wear and tear on the whole playground.  there is exposed metal on most of the decks.  the paint is faded or chipping in many locations.  much of the hardware is rusted. (pic 5-7)
notes
  • since the padlock and the clamp do not serve a purpose, the easiest solution would be to remove them both.
  • for the excessive bolt threads below deck, it is recommended that the bolts be replaced or grinded down to proper length.  make sure that no burrs or sharp edges remain after grinding.
  • the wear and tear on this playground is not surprising given its age.   i would not recommend a retrofit for this structure since most of the components and hardware on this unit are near the end of their useful life. this playground should be considered for replacement in the near future.
  • although, the rubber is typically removed and replaced when tearing out and installing a new structure. given the quality of this rubber, it might make sense to repair the buffings in footing locations and recap the rubber instead of full replacement.
