notes / recommendations

notes

  • the playground rubber has at least 1 minor crack.
  • there is one loose roof rivet
  • playground decks and plastics are in good shape
  • some of the red play components have faded, but this is typical as red is not very UV stable

recommendations:  now

  • clean and seal rubber
  • feather rubber into crack(s)

recommendations:  within next 2 years

  • keep an eye on crack issues
  • with routine maintenance, patching may not be needed.
  • 3-5 years, may need to replace cracking cargo chain climber (might make sense to do this when updating hoover#1 and #3)
(see log entry below for further explanation)

maintenance
  • no maintenance was performed since the site evaluation was only conducted for sample database.

site evaluation
  • astm signage - current stickers missing/damaged - (pic 1) / (included in maintenance plan)
  • loose rivet - the loose rivet meant to secure the roof has created an entanglement hazard. - (pic 2) / (included in maintenance plan)
  • rubber - the rubber is in pretty good shape and does not seem to have significant thinning, but it does appear to have some weak spots.  there is at least one small crack, but with a seal coat and perhaps a small amount of rubber granules feathered in, it is possible that patching won't be necessary. (pic 3)
  • cracking plastic - there is a small amount of cracking on the chain ladder climber.  Replacement is not urgent, but should potentially be addressed next time Landscape Structures modification are made at the school.  the blue coated chain for the chain ladder attached to the 2011 retrofit deck has minor cracking.  (the red plastic coated large cargo net climber is still in good condition) (pic 4)

notes
  • it is important that the loose rivet be addressed immediately.
  • otherwise, the structure is in great shape.  panels are secured appropriately so as to avoid entrapment hazards. the decks are shiny and in good shape.  under deck, bolt thread lengths appear to comply with safety standards.
  • the green poured rubber is in good shape but looks like it's a couple years past due for a seal coat application. we will address the small crack without patching at the moment and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't progress.
