notes / recommendations

notes

the playground rubber has deteriorated very quickly for its age.
  • the quality of the rubber is not good
  • it is unusual to see this much fading on 4-5 year old rubber
  • based on the feel, it seems as though it was installed a little thinner than recommended
  • routine sealing is critical
the playground equipment is in pretty good shape.
  • for 10 years old, it looks good
  • the cracking rubber coated chain is to be expected.
  • this structure should easily last another decade with very little work/updates

recommendations:  now

  • replace cracked chains

recommendations:  within next 2 years

  • keep an eye on the rubber for signs of cracking or holes.  if any new wear and tear shows, another seal coat should probably be applied
  • the gap along the perimeter of the rubber should not be a safety issue, but should problems arise, we can certainly address this by filling it with more rubber.  watch out for issues.

site evaluation
  • astm signage - updated
  • ADA compliant - with 2 elevated elements, 1 ground level is required.  This playground has 2 ground level events and thus meets the requirements for ADA compliance.
  • cracked chain coating - the plastic coating on chains of the ring bridge is cracked.  this is not uncommon but these chain segments should probably be replaced (pic 1)
notes
  • the poured rubber has pulled away from the curb by about an inch and a half. (pics 2-3)
  • the decks are cracked and have exposed metal all over. (pics 5-6)
  • the powder coating is not in good shape and most colors on this structure have faded. (pic 7)
