notes / recommendations

notes

the playground rubber is just beginning to fail.
  • there are about a dozen cracks
  • the rubber is thick enough, and the cracks are small enough that the sealing should allow it to last until the equipment can be replaced
the playground equipment is old and ready for replacement.
  • the 25 year old playground is not an imminent safety threat, but it has reached the end of it's useful life.
  • the deck coating is cracked or worn through
  • the colors have faded
  • the paint has worn off
  • the structure is not ADA compliant because it predates the requirements

recommendations:  now

  • watch for growing cracks or holes large enough to cause a possible trip hazard.  if black buffing layer becomes visible, contact us to arrange patching

recommendations:  within next 2 years

  • remove/replace play structure

service log

a 2018

before
after
maintenance
  • bolts checked/tightened (loose bolts on bridge)
  • equipment and rubber pressure washed
  • rubber sealed

site evaluation
  • astm signage - updated
  • ADA compliant - with 9 elevated elements, 3 ground level (3 types) are required.  This playground has 0 ground level events. 3 different types of ground level events would need to be added for ADA compliance.
  • slide panel entrance is cracked.  manufacturer will be contacted to discuss options. (pic 1)
notes
  • the cracks in the rubber are not an immediate safety concern.  there are many cracks, however the newly applied seal coat should slow deterioration long enough to arrange for equipment removal and replacement.  patching rubber when equipment is going to be replaced soon is not recommended. (pics 2-4)
  • the decks are cracked and have exposed metal all over. (pics 5-6)
  • the powder coating is not in good shape and most colors on this structure have faded. (pic 7)
